Technically, SODA@HOME sparkling water makers are capable of carbonating not only water but also a wide range of food-grade beverages. However, carbonating sweetened drinks, juices, wine, or liquids containing fruit pieces requires additional care and maintenance from the user.
For this reason, the official user manual recommends carbonating only clean water.
Why Does the Manual Recommend Water Only?
The main reason is to ensure the reliability and long-term durability of the valve system.
When carbonating plain water, excess pressure is released primarily as carbon dioxide and water vapor, leaving the valve mechanism clean and operating properly.
When sweetened beverages or liquids containing fruit particles are carbonated, the following may occur:
- Increased foaming. Foam can enter the valve mechanism during pressure release.
- Sugar and residue buildup. As moisture evaporates, sugar can crystallize and affect moving parts.
- Accelerated wear of seals and components. Sugars, acids, and other ingredients may reduce the service life of certain parts.
To provide the safest and most reliable user experience, the manufacturer recommends carbonating water only.
Why Do Some Videos and Product Descriptions Show Other Beverages Being Carbonated?
The design of SODA@HOME machines allows them to carbonate a variety of beverages, opening up possibilities for homemade sparkling juices, lemonades, wine-based drinks, and other creative recipes.
Our videos and demonstrations showcase the full capabilities of the system. However, such use requires additional cleaning and maintenance and is considered an advanced use case that falls under the user's responsibility.
Recommended Method
💡 The safest and recommended approach:
- Carbonate well-chilled plain water.
- Add syrup, juice, concentrates, fruit, or other flavorings after carbonation, either in a glass or after removing the bottle from the machine.
This method delivers excellent results while helping to protect the valve system from contamination.
If You Choose to Carbonate Sweetened Beverages Directly
To minimize the risk of valve contamination or premature wear, please follow these guidelines:
- Do not exceed the maximum fill line.
- Release pressure slowly and carefully.
- Immediately rinse the bottle cap and valve assembly with warm (not hot) water after use.
- While rinsing, actuate the valve several times under running water to remove any remaining sugar or beverage residue.
